Lina Lapelytė explores imbalance and deviation by highlighting individuals lacking ”musical ear,” questioning dominant norms in Western musical traditions that frequently exclude voices perceived as unfit.
"Study of Slope" was initially scheduled to premiere at Lilith Performance Studio in 2020 but was postponed due to the pandemic. Since then, various versions of the piece have been presented across Europe. Now, the work will finally be realized in its intended Lilith Performance Studio format, transforming the entire studio into a nettle field for the audience to enter.
Lina Lapelytė is internationally recognized for her genre-crossing practice, effortlessly moving between performance and experimental music, popular cultural references, and explorations of gender norms.
Her most famous work is the opera performance "Sun & Sea" (in collaboration with Rugilė Barzdžiukaitė and Vaiva Grainytė), which was awarded the Golden Lion at the Venice Biennale in 2019, and has since toured worldwide, including a widely noted guest performance at Malmö Konsthall in 2021.
