Research themes

Artistic research was introduced as an academic discipline in the late 20th century and is today a growing research field in many places world-wide. At Lund University, artistic research was established in 2000.

As the research infrastructure at the Faculty of Fine and Performing Arts at Lund University, IAC facilitates research activities in artistic practices and cross-disciplinary explorations in the arts that involve researchers and doctoral students.

A number of recurring research themes have been developed at IAC over the years:

  • Immersive technologies (virtual reality, augmented reality, spatial sound)
  • Contemporary dramaturgy and postdramatic theatre
  • Sound art, electronic music, and live electronics
  • Instrumental and vocal experimentation
  • Arts and sciences (in collaboration with other Lund University partners such as the Sound Environment Center, Humlab, and ESS)
