VEJR TRAEK by Liv Vesterskov & Halla Steinunn Stefánsdóttir
10–19 June 2025
Through this preliminary study, we aim to explore and develop a new shared artistic methodology, while investigating the idea of languages that exist in between – languages that do not fully belong to one space or another. This inquiry is grounded in the genre of folk-pop (vispop), used here as a tool to uncover the tone, rhythm, and frame of a new production with songs and texts by Liv Vesterskov and AI-generated composition by Halla Steinunn Stefánsdóttir.
Liv Vesterskov is an actor, writer and director, working in theatre, film and art. She is educated at the Malmö Theatre Academy and has also studied music at the Danish Aalborg Talent Academy. She often works with cross-genre projects and artistic investigations with text, video, sound and objects. As a director, she has worked on productions such as Ett annat arkiv at Teater Insite, the musical performance piece Mylla with Teater X, If I Were a Boy at Teatr Weimar and the performance concert Arvtryk at Inkonst and Teater Momentum in Odense.
Violinist, composer, curator Halla Steinunn Stefánsdóttir is born in Iceland and based in Malmö. Her music making is driven by an ecosystemic outlook and an interest in the more-than-human world. She has been the artistic director of Nordic Affect since its inception in 2005 and made numerous appearances with the ensemble at festivals and concert venues in Europe and USA. Stefánsdóttir’s playing and compositions are featured on albums by the Carrier Records, Brilliant Classics, Musmap, Bad Taste Records, Tally, and Sono Luminus labels. Stefánsdóttir holds a PhD in artistic research from Lund University and conducted in 2024 a three-month postdoctoral fellowship at the ERC funded Intelligent Instrument Lab, led by Thor Magnusson at The University of Iceland.
