At INTONAL we place a strong emphasis on inviting composers and performers with a deep and embodied knowledge of the acousmonium. Within the European acousmatic tradition, few figures have played as central and pioneering a role as Annette Vande Gorne. It is a particular pleasure to dedicate this concert entirely to her music, and to do so in the year of her 80th birthday, in her presence.
No beginning could be more appropriate than opening with a piece entitled Jour de l’an, Jour de fête, which is in fact the closing track of one of her major cycles, the Haïkus, from which the full suite Automne will also be presented.
Alongside these pieces, the program includes Cosmographie (2003) and Paysage / Vitesse (1986), which reflect earlier stages of her compositional thinking and, at my ear, connect directly with the sounds and energies of acousmatic music from those years. The earliest work in the concert, Crise (1984), is, for me, one of the most striking: I perceive it as very complex, with a dense accumulation of synthetic materials that gives the piece a strong and almost improvisatory sonic presence, which I experience as quite different from the rest of her catalogue.
Alessandro Perini is a composer and sound artist exploring how bodies, spaces, and sound interact through custom-built instruments and experimental electroacoustic devices. His background in composition and electronic music shapes a practice grounded in material processes, mechanics, and physical performance, often using electromechanical systems, custom-built machines, or 3D‑printed prosthetic devices. His work has been presented internationally and is documented on the KAIROS portrait album The Expanded Body. Alessandro also teaches composition and electronic music, co‑founded the Malmö-based collective Hertzbreakerz, and curates the academic programme of the Intonal Festival at IAC while working between Italy and Sweden.
