Les Femmes Savantes was founded in 2005 as an interdisciplinary orchestra of five Berlin-based female composers / musicians from Germany, Argentina and Sweden. On this tour, the fifth original member Hanna Hartman does not participate. Years of collaboration have enabled Les Femmes Savantes to create a specific acoustic identity that exceeds the sum of their individual aesthetic languages:The compositions / performances / installations are developed and implemented through a close collaboration. Each participant takes turn to hold the role as composer, co-worker, interpreter or director. These changes of divisions of roles result in the progress of their concerts / performance acts in which individuals as well as joint works are presented.Their musical spectrum extends from contemporary, Echtzeit music – and electronic music as well as sound art and jazz. A rich and varied range of media is incorporated into Les Femmes Savante’s compositions: The artists’ bodies become their instruments, the public space becomes their scene; computers intervene with the event and video clips become their fellow musicians.
