Another underlying line in this edition of INTONAL is a focus on musicians from Central and South America, represented in particular by the talk with Laura Balboa and Lilian Campesato, but also through the presence in music of artists linked to those areas — both more and less known — working across post-classical and experimental contexts.
Following the significant experience from last year with Pan Sonic's music performed on the acousmonium, this edition continues on the same line with the work of two Brazilian artists, Carla Boregas and Anelena Toku, through a full listening of their album Fronte Violeta. The record, released on Nicolas Jaar’s label Other People — who will also be present at the festival — was brought to my attention thanks to Laura Balboa, who has played a key role in shaping this opening towards sonic practices and scenes from the Central and South American context.
Alessandro Perini is a composer and sound artist exploring how bodies, spaces, and sound interact through custom-built instruments and experimental electroacoustic devices. His background in composition and electronic music shapes a practice grounded in material processes, mechanics, and physical performance, often using electromechanical systems, custom-built machines, or 3D‑printed prosthetic devices. His work has been presented internationally and is documented on the KAIROS portrait album The Expanded Body. Alessandro also teaches composition and electronic music, co‑founded the Malmö-based collective Hertzbreakerz, and curates the academic programme of the Intonal Festival at IAC while working between Italy and Sweden.
