BLACK FEMALE FORM | Sarah Nakiito

BLACK FEMALE FORM is an ongoing artistic research project exploring the relationship between race, medicine, embodiment and colonial history. Initiated during the Covid-19 pandemic, the project examines how unequal medical systems continue to affect Black bodies and mental health, rooted in histories of slavery, colonialism and medical exploitation. Through performance, film and material investigations, the work explores healing, resistance and non-Western knowledge systems. In autumn 2024, Sarah Nakiito travelled to Uganda to meet with traditional healers whose movements and practices informed a performative film work currently in production.
Sarah Nakiito is a multidisciplinary artist working across textile, performance, film, and research. Her practice explores blackness, gender, embodiment, and diasporic experience through material-driven, site-based processes.
