três bichos-da-traça (video installation) / ponto sem nó (board game)

Three feather-like objects in front of a black background. Photo.

In três bichos-da-traça Anabela Veloso delves into the eerie intersection of ambition and decay. Imagining herself as an astronaut or a mastermind criminal, she finds herself navigating the fraught legacy of her parents’ knitwear factory. The main characters deceptive promise of wealth spirals into a narrative of exploitation and fraud, leaving a trail of financial ruin and personal disillusionment. Through a letter, Veloso reveals the quiet destruction wrought by these unseen forces and the emotional cost of her family's enduring struggle.

In ponto sem nó, players dive into a world of financial ruin and personal disillusionment set against the backdrop of três bichos-da-traça. Players must uncover the identity of the "3 moths" whose fraud, manipulation, and exploitation have pushed both the family and their business to the brink. Through investigation and strategic discussion, players expose the methods of deception behind the rupture.

About Anabela Veloso:

Anabela Veloso examines how relationships shape social and political spheres, focusing on subjective figures like friends, neighbours, and family members, amplifying them into collective forms. She pursues entry points to understand, deconstruct, and propose imagined possibilities through research and language that can be shared as community practices or add a critical voice in a white cube installation. Often, she incorporates personal or historical narratives.
